The new Wacker Neuson Compact Excavator 2404.

(Leonding, July 14, 2009) The new 2404 track excavator is the fruit of evolutionary design: tried-and-tested components have been optimized and the interplay between engine and hydraulics performance considerably accentuated. With the 2404, Wacker Neuson has extended its series offering in the 2.5 ton segment. Along with high levels of efficiency and low procurement and operating costs, high machine flexibility for the operator was at the forefront of development.

Efficiency and high performance.

Low fuel consumption, low service expenditure and cost savings on transport thanks to its compact dimensions and low tare weight make the new 2404 a pacesetter in its weight class. The performance characteristics, moreover, speak for themselves: 2.6 m digging depth, 2.8 m dumping height, 1.2 t lifting power. "The objective we had for this excavator was to develop a powerful, efficient and robust machine which also addressed a price-conscious clientele and which could easily hold its own with machines in the 2.5 ton class," explains Gerhard Neudorfer, Sales Manager, Wacker Neuson Linz GmbH. "Our designers have achieved this with aplomb, and we see some massive potential for this 2.4 ton excavator.“

High stability thanks to the oversized running gear.

A key characteristic of the 2404 is its stability, enhanced by its extremely broad and long running gear. The engine is in the tail section and the fluids tanks and hydraulic control block are beneath the cab, meaning that the weight distribution is extremely balanced. The low centre of gravity provides the 2404 with stability, even in difficult terrain, that is unique in this class and which facilitates smooth and controlled working conditions.

High flexibility.

A great deal of focus during development was centred on the versatility of machine deployment. The result is that the new 2.4 ton track excavator, thanks to its low transport weight of under 2.3 tons, can be transported easily even using a car and trailer. The sturdy hoisting eyelets on the cab roof enable the easy and rapid relocation of the machine. The cab can be dismantled with a few easy gestures and the 2404 remains fully functional even without its cab. This means that passages with low headroom are no longer an obstacle.

25% time and material savings.

The 2404 is the newest member of the Vertical Digging System (VDS) family. This innovation from Wacker Neuson enables the continuously variable tilting of the superstructure through up to 15°. This makes it possible to compensate for inclines of up to 27% at the simple touch of a button, allowing the driver to work in his usual upright position. Comfort, utility and efficiency are considerably enhanced for the operator, whatever the task in hand. The use of VDS, available as an option, increases the machine's stability on steeply sloping terrain by up to 20%. This shortens excavation times thanks to precisely vertical digging, therefore increasing markedly both productivity and working efficiency. Using VDS, material and time savings of up to 25% can be achieved when excavating and filling-in. This keeps expensive preparatory work to a minimum and reduces significantly the costs and man-hours.

Comfort writ large.

The new cab design of the 2404 offers the user plenty of head and leg room. The wide doorway makes for safe mounting and alighting. As an option, the 2404 from Wacker Neuson can also be equipped with a two-door cab, thereby considerably increasing its flexibility. The large two-part front windscreen has been fitted with a new innovative mechanism which allows the driver to slide both lower and upper panes beneath the cab roof, so protecting them from damage when the front screen is wide open. This does away with the need to remove and stow separately the bottom windscreen pane. This system also offers various opening variants, such as the ventilation position or the dialogue position, whereby the lower pane is slid beneath the upper windscreen section.

Easy maintenance and servicing.

All servicing components for daily checks are located in the tail section of the 2404 and are easy to access via the large engine space cover. Both side plates as well as the floor plate in the cab are easy to remove and provide unhindered access to all internal hydraulic components. This concept offers unparalleled serviceability and saves time and money.
